GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director of Youth Development and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Marshall Area YMCA, the Child Watch Staff is responsible for job duties in Child Watch. In addition he/she is to aid the Marshall Area YMCA in fulfilling our mission to instill the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through programs and services that strengthen the foundations of our communities.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Position requires a person with experience in working with children ages 6 weeks to 8 years old.
- Incumbents must be at least 18 years of age.
- Person must have a personality that reflects a love of children, can understand and meet their wide variety of needs, and is creative and spontaneous.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent must be able to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor terrain; participate in typical children’s games, sports and activities; watch and listen to the activities of a group of children; and lift up to 50 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides supervision and care for children ranging in age from infants through 8 years old.
- Understands, and executes when necessary, all Child Watch emergency procedures.
- Ensures that an adult signs each child in and out of Child Watch according to established procedures.
- Assists children in finding and engaging in appropriate activities.
- Assists in daily and weekly clean up of all facilities, supplies and equipment used by Child Watch.
- Attend all staff training sessions and staff meetings.
- Ensure the well being and safety of all the children in the programs.
- Care for and maintain equipment, supplies, and property.
- Maintain positive relationships with parents, youth, and other YMCA staff.
- Uphold YMCA policies and philosophy; use character development as a basis in working with both participants and other staff members.
- Have complete knowledge of all emergency procedures to ensure the safety of the participants.
- Be responsible for all scheduled hours and if necessary, follow appropriate substitution procedures.
- Complete all required employment records including time records in an honest and timely manner.
- Assist Youth Development Director and Executive Director as requested in relation to Marshall Area YMCA.
- The incumbent must be able to fulfill the above job requirements by purposefully and seamlessly challenging her/himself and others to accept and demonstrate the positive values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

- Conduct of incumbent reflects values and goals of Marshall Area YMCA.
- The Marshall Area YMCA will be known in the community as an organization dedicated to building character.
